The Eungam Hana Public Kindergarten, Hana Financial Group’s first childcare facility in Seoul, is located in a dense urban area surrounded by old buildings with poor lighting and ventilation. The design responds through practical, data-based methods rather than abstract theory. A south-facing atrium improves daylight, while east–west openings enable cross ventilation. Emphasizing Korean Sustainable Adaptive Architecture, the project overcomes harsh site conditions with realistic solutions, creating a comfortable environment for children.

하나금융그룹의 서울 첫 보육시설인 응암하나공립유치원은 채광과 환기가 열악한 노후 건물들로 둘러싸인 도심 밀집 지역에 위치해 있습니다. 이 설계는 추상적인 이론보다는 실용적이고 데이터 기반의 접근 방식을 통해 이러한 환경에 대응하고자 했습니다. 남향 아트리움을 통해 자연광을 극대화하고, 동서 방향의 개구부를 통해 자연 환기를 가능하게 했습니다. 한국형 지속가능 적응형 건축을 강조한 이 프로젝트는 현실적인 해결책을 통해 열악한 부지 조건을 극복하고 아이들에게 쾌적한 환경을 조성했습니다.

Eungam Hana Public Kindergarten designed by SSK, the first competition-winning project after returning to Korea, was selected as the final winner of Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2025 honorably. SSK focuses on experiential architecture that integrates the form and meaning inherent in space by utilizing data and systems. SSK implements adaptive architecture, an active methodology that transcends the physical limitations of space and ensures a healthy living environment through the optimal balance of form and function. It aims to revitalize fragmented daily life through refined spatialization of intangible elements that affect spatial psychology, such as light, shadow, sound, and fluid dynamics. As a high-end studio that performs comprehensive design from furniture and lighting, which are the basic units of architecture, to detailed design and supervision, SSK does not accept low-cost projects or meaningless prolific works. As a design-oriented studio that pursues the pinnacle of architectural detail through dense study, SSK continues to work on innovative spaces.

SSK는 공간에 담긴 조형과 의미를 데이터와 시스템에 기반하여 통합하는 실증적인 건축을 추구한다. 형상과 기능의 최적화된 균형을 통해 공간이 지닌 물리적 한계를 극복하고 건강한 정주환경을 보장하는 능동적인 건축방법론인 Adaptive Architecture(환경적응건축)을 지향한다. 이는 공간심리에 영향을 미치는 빛, 음영, 소리, 유체 등 무형요소의 정제된 공간화를 통해 파편화된 일상을 재생하는데 목적이 있다. 건축의 기본단위인 가구와 라이팅부터 실시설계 및 공사감리까지 종합디자인을 수행하는 High-end Studio로 저가수주 및 무의미한 다작은 하지 않는다. 밀도있는 스터디를 통해 건축 디테일의 정점을 추구하는 Design-oriented Studio로 혁신적인 공간작업을 이어가고 있다.

SSK has been invited to the 100 Architects of the Year exhibition. The 100 Architects of the Year exhibition, co-hosted by the Korean Institute of Architects (KIA) and the International Union of Architects (UIA), is a significant architectural cultural event that brings together and exhibits outstanding works by architects from around the world. Each year, approximately 100 domestic and international architects are selected to exhibit during the Korea Architecture Festival held in Seoul. Since 2012, this exhibition has been recognized by the UIA (International Union of Architects) as an official international invitational exhibition. Through participation from various countries and the formation of a global network, it has become a forum for sharing trends and philosophies in the architectural field.

SSK가 올해의 건축가 100인전에 초대되었다. 올해의 건축가 100인전은 한국건축가협회(KIA)와 국제건축가연맹(UIA)이 공동 주최하는 국제 초대전으로, 전 세계 건축가들의 뛰어난 작품을 한자리에 모아 전시하는 중요한 건축문화 행사이다. 매년 선정된 100명 내외의 국내외 건축가들이 서울에서 개최되는 대한민국건축문화제 기간 중 전시를 진행한다. 이 전시는 2012년부터 UIA(국제건축가연맹)의 공인을 받아 공인 국제 초대전으로 자리잡았고, 다양한 국가의 참여와 글로벌 네트워크 형성을 통해 건축계의 흐름과 철학을 공유하는 장이 되고 있다.

The Incheon Architecture Award, established by Incheon Metropolitan City, aims to discover and promote excellent local architecture and its value. Its goal is to foster architectural culture and enhance the quality of the urban environment. Each year, the award comprehensively evaluates creative architectural concepts, spatial composition, completeness, publicness, and contributions to the city and society to select representative architectural works of Incheon. Through this award, the city aims to elevate the quality of local architecture and highlight architectural achievements that enhance the quality of life for citizens. Within this spirit, the WD Gateball Stadium received the Excellence Award at the Incheon Architecture Award. This project was highly praised for its functional excellence as a public facility for recreational sports, as well as its potential as an open space for local residents to use and interact on a daily basis. It was particularly recognized as a significant architectural achievement, transcending mere sports facilities and harmonizing with the surrounding environment to serve as a hub for the local community.

인천건축상은 인천광역시가 지역의 우수한 건축물을 발굴하고 그 가치를 널리 알리기 위해 제정한 건축상으로, 건축문화의 발전과 도시 환경의 질적 향상을 목표로 하고 있다. 매년 창의적인 건축 개념과 공간 구성, 완성도, 공공성, 그리고 도시 및 사회에 기여하는 정도 등을 종합적으로 평가해 인천을 대표하는 건축 작품을 선정한다. 이를 통해 지역 건축의 수준을 높이고, 시민의 삶의 질을 향상시키는 건축적 성과를 조명하고자 한다. 이러한 취지 속에서 WD Gateball Stadium은 인천건축상 우수상을 수상했다. 이 프로젝트는 생활 체육을 위한 공공 시설로서 기능적 완성도는 물론, 지역 주민들이 일상적으로 이용하고 소통할 수 있는 열린 공간으로서의 가능성을 높이 평가받았다. 특히 단순한 체육시설을 넘어 주변 환경과 조화를 이루며 지역 커뮤니티의 거점으로 작동하는 점에서 의미 있는 건축적 성과로 인정받았다.

Sejong-ro Park and Symbolic Sculpture Competition 2025 / 5th Prize

세종로 공원 및 상징조형물 설계공모 2025 / 5등

Sejong-ro Park, nestled between Gwanghwamun Square and powerful national monuments like Gyeongbokgung Palace, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, and government buildings, continues to function as an urban park. However, its stilted structure and level differences diminish its presence, obscuring the inherent identity and sense of place within the grounds. The existing underground parking structure, currently used as a parking lot, is extremely dense due to its limited space and the need to accommodate a large number of vehicles. The design was beneficial in terms of structural module consistency and structural stability when opened to the ground. The lowered level of the existing relic exhibition space was utilized to its maximum advantage. The central sunken Memorial Garden and the relic exhibition space were designed to seamlessly connect, creating a unique urban sequence within Gwanghwamun Square. The Memorial Pillars, which commemorate and symbolize the sacrifices of the 22 countries that participated in the Korean War, are media art pieces created using display panels. These displays are intended to serve as a presenter, conveying the symbols and news of each nation through various content. On the ground floor, the flow of traffic from the sunken area extends to the roof, circulating throughout the site. The open structure to Gwanghwamun Square allows visitors to experience the changing flow of the urban landscape at various nodes. Ultimately, the design aims to create a sense of openness, offering a subtle respite from the urban context while maintaining a distinct presence, yet maintaining a strong sense of public identity. Seoul Memorial Garden consists of five major spaces. The sunken park, created by opening up the upper slab of the existing Sejong-ro Park's first basement level, features a water feature and a two-level Seoul Memorial Garden, forming its centerpiece. Surrounding this space are the Memorial Pillars, symbolizing the sacrifices of the 22 Korean War veterans, and a two-way accessible stair plaza. Part of the existing relic exhibition space was partially removed to connect directly with the Seoul Memorial Garden on the first basement level, actively utilizing the difference in levels. The intention was to create a sense of significance and spatiality within the urban core, through openings to the underground space and the sky above. Specifically, the Seoul Memorial Garden and Memorial Pillars feature long connecting passageways that expand the space, maximizing their symbolic impact. Above all, the three-dimensional and diverse spatial composition will provide visitors with diverse spatial experiences and new memories, thereby perpetuating the continuity of the "Garden of Memory.

세종로 공원 광화문광장과 경복궁, 세종문화회관, 정부청사 등 국가를 상징하는 강한 모뉴먼트 사이에서 여전히 도심지 공원으로 기능하고 있다. 다만, 고림된 구조와 레벨차로 인해 그 존재감이 미비하여 땅이 지닌 태생적인 정체성과 장소성을 드러내지 못하고 있다. 기존 지하주차장으로 사용중인 지하구조물은 좁은 땅에서 많은 주차대수를 확보하려다 보니 굉장히 밀도가 높다. 디행인 점은 구조모듈의 일관성과 지상으로 개방시 구조안정성 차원에서 양호했다. 기존 유구전시공간의 레벨다운을 최대한 지형적 장점으로 응용하고자 했다. 중앙 선큰 Memorial Garden과 유구전시공간이 자연스럽게 연결될수 있도록 의도했고 결과적으로 광화문 광장에서 색다른 도시적 시퀀스를 전달할수 있는 동선이 연출될수 있었다. 6.25참전 22개국의 희생정신을 기리고 상징하는 Memorial Pillars는 디스플레이 패널로 제작된 미디어 아트로 향후 다양한 컨텐츠에 의해 개별 국가들의 상징과 소식을 전할 수 있는 Presenter 역할을 하도록 의도했다. 지상층에서는 선큰에서 올라오는 동선의 흐름이 지붕위까지 연결되어 부지 전체를 순환하도록 했다. 광화문 광장으로 개방된 구조를 통해 다양한 Node에서 도시 풍광이 변화하는 흐름을 경험할 수 있게 하고자 했다. 결과적으로 본 설계안은 충분한 개방성과 도시 컨텍스트에 살짝 자리를 내어주고 뒤로 내려앉아 자신의 존재감을 은폐하되 강한 공공성으로 자신의 정체성을 형성할 수 있도록 의도되었다. Seoul Memorial Garden은 크게 5개의 공간으로 구성된다. 기존 세종로 공원 지하1층의 상부 슬라브를 개방하여 마련한 선큰공원에는 수공간과 함께 복층형의 정원인 Seoul Memorial Garden(서울 기억의 정원)이 중심을 잡고, 그 주변으로 22개 6.25참전국의 희생을 상징하는 Memorial Pillars(기억의 필러)와 2방향에서 접근 가능한 계단광장이 연결된다. 기존의 유구전시공간은 일부 벽체를 해체하여 지하1층의 Seoul Memorial Garden과 직접연결하여 레벨차를 능동적으로 활용했다. 지하공간이나 상부 하늘로 개방된 방식을 통해 도심지 내에서 상징공간의 의미와 공간감을 느낄수 있도록 의도했다. 특히 Seoul Memorial Garden과 Memorial Pillars는 긴 연결통로를 지나 공간이 확장되는 요소를 적용해 상징성이 극대화 될 수 있도록 했다. 무엇보다 입체적이고 다채로운 공간구성은 방문객들로 하여금 다양한 공간체험과 새로운 기억을 안겨줌으로써 ‘기억의 정원’의 연속성을 지속시켜나갈 것이다.ㅤ

Cubicoon Magazine 2022

SSK was introduced on Cubicoon, a global content platform exploring life and happiness through architecture, design, and space. Cubicoon views architecture and design beyond mere form and function, but as living elements that influence our thoughts, emotions, and the quality of our daily lives. Beyond visible structures, they explore how space influences human health, psychology, and behavior, sharing their ideas and insights through writing. They also value the harmony between nature, architecture, and design.

SSK가 건축, 디자인, 공간을 통해 삶과 행복을 탐구하는 글로벌 콘텐츠 플랫폼인 Cubicoon에 소개되었다. Cubicoon은 건축과 디자인을 단순한 형태와 기능 그 이상으로 바라보며, 우리의 생각, 감정, 그리고 일상생활의 질에 영향을 미치는 살아있는 요소로 여긴다. 눈에 보이는 구조물을 넘어 공간이 인간의 건강, 심리, 행동에 미치는 영향을 탐구하고, 이러한 생각과 통찰을 글을 통해 공유하며 자연, 건축, 디자인 간의 조화를 중시하는 글로벌 매거진이다.

Monthly Architectural Culture introduces new architecture and diverse architectural ideas from around the world, informing professionals and students about domestic and international architectural trends and key issues. It also covers the work of experts and collaborative projects in other fields, broadening their perspectives on emerging architectural fields. In its 520 issue, Architectural Culture highlights the Eungam Hana Public Kindergarten as an architectural example of publicness and social value.

건축 전문지 아키랩 출판사의 대표 건축 전문지인 월간 건축문화는 1981년 4월 창간된 한국 최고의 건축 전문지로서 가장 오랜 역사를 자랑한다. 월간 건축문화는 전 세계의 새로운 건축물과 다양한 건축적 아이디어를 소개하며, 전문가와 학생들에게 국내외 건축 동향 및 주요 이슈에 대한 정보를 제공한다. 또한, 타 분야 전문가들의 활동과 협업 프로젝트를 다루며 새롭게 부상하는 건축 분야에 대한 폭넓은 시각을 제시한다. 520호에서는 은암하나공립유치원을 공공성과 사회적 가치를 구현한 건축 사례로 집중 조명했다.

Venice Biennale Pavilion International Design Competition 2013 / WINNER

베니스 비엔날레 국제디자인공모 2013 / 당선

SSK has won first place in the international design competition for the Venice Biennale Pavilion. Hosted by ArchTriumph, a gateway for emerging architects, this international idea competition was an open competition for architects from around the world and was conducted in two stages.

The judges, K. Benjamin Stowe (ArchTriumph Awards director), N. D. Izoulet (architect), and E. Eydin (engineer) from the UK, reviewed a total of 55 teams, and selected 13 teams in the first round. SSK won first place in the second round, while second and third place went to HumbertoConde Architects from Portugal and quasesp Archi-tectus from Italy.

This marks the first time a Korean architect has won the ArchTriumph Awards, which discover and support promising emerging architects from around the world. The organizers said, “The ‘Floating Pavilion’ will be built based on the winning proposal and will be used as a space for showcases and exhibitions of various genres, including architecture, art, music, and film.”

SSK가 ‘베니스 비엔날레 파빌리온’ 국제 설계경기에서 영예의 1등을 차지했다. 신진 건축가들의 등용문인 ArchTriumph가 주최한 이번 국제 아이디어 공모는 세계 건축가를 대상으로 한 오픈 공모로서 2단계 심사로 진행됐다.

심사위원은 영국의 K. Benjamin Stowe(ArchTriumph Awards 감독), N. D. Izoulet(건축가), E. Eydin(엔지니어)이 맡아 총 55개 팀이 참여해 1차에서 13개 팀이 선정, 2차에서 SSK를 1등에 선정했으며, 2등과 3등은 포르투갈(HumbertoConde Architects)과 이탈리아 건축가(quasesp Archi-tectus)에게 돌아갔다.

전 세계 유망 신진 건축가를 발굴 후원하고 있는 ArchTriumph 어워드에서 국내 건축가가 당선한 것은 이번이 처음이다. 주최측은 “‘수상 파빌리온’(Floating Pavilion)은 당선안을 토대로 건립할 예정이며, 건축과 예술, 음악과 영화 등 다양한 장르의 쇼케이스와 전시를 위한 공간으로서 활용할 예정”이라고 밝혔다.
